Oxford High School is gearing up for its third annual Charger Challenge this Saturday.

“The 5K race, 1-mile fun run and free family carnival, sponsored by the Oxford Endowment for Public Education (OEPE) and the Oxford Charger Athletic Booster Club, will benefit both academics and athletics within the Oxford School District” a press release from OHS stated.

The 5K race will begin at 8 a.m. and be followed by a one mile fun run at 9, which is said to be geared toward younger runners. Forms for registration for the race are available at www.oepe.org.

“The Charger Challenge is a natural way to marry the missions of OEPE and the Booster Club in a fun, family-centered way,” said Camie Bianco, OEPE and Booster Club board member.

There will be free admission for the carnival, which runs from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., and will feature arts and crafts, field competitions, face painting, and inflatables.

“Participants will enjoy community demonstrations and performances as well as educational exhibits showcasing OEPE grant recipients and teaching excellence in the classroom,” the press release stated. “Teachers will display exhibits demonstrating the impact OEPE grants made on their students. Last year OEPE awarded more than $19,000 directly to teachers.”

““It is rewarding to see membership dollars in action and the creativity of these teachers be rewarded,” said Meridith Wulff, OEPE board president.

Membership for the OEPE is open to any person/family or business and is 100 dollars per year.
