Thisbe & Scott Foundation Hosts Oxford Event Friday
The Thisbe & Noah Scott Foundation is set to host a night of music, food and drink August 16 at The Library Sports Bar on the Oxford Square.
The Oxford community is invited to enjoy the an evening with performances by the Kudzu Kings, and a chance to win a 2013 Chevrolet Spark in ‘victory red’, while honoring the Thisbe & Noah Scott Foundation.
The TNSF for Pediatric Neuromuscular Diseases works to promote research, awareness and support for families affected by pediatric neuromuscular diseases.
“Neuromuscular diseases are diseases that impair motor function or movement, either because of dysfunction of the muscle itself or indirectly through dysfunction of the nerve that communicates with that muscle,” states the TNSF website.
Laurian and John Scott created the TNSF in memory of their children, Thisbe and Noah. Thisbe and Noah passed away at young ages of a rare type of motor neuron diseases, BVVL, which falls under the category of neuromuscular diseases.
“Neuromuscular diseases affect human beings at every stage of life, from infancy through old age, and they do not discriminate according to ethnicity or geography, affecting millions worldwide,” states the TNSF website. “The incidence in general has been noted to be about 1 in every 1,000 births.”
Through this Friday’s event, the TNSF hopes to bring the community together to promote public awareness of pediatric neuromuscular diseases.
“Sadly, many Americans have never heard of these diseases. We need to get to a place where everyone knows the names: “motor neuron disease” and “neuromuscular disease,” states the TNSF website. “Many of these diseases are genetic, and most have no cure. The possibilities for treatments and a cure are endless and very much within our grasp.”
Tickets can be purchased at the door Friday, August 16, or before the event by emailing joylynnjones@hotmail.com. General admission is $50, and Patron tickets are $500. Friday’s event is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
“TNSF works to support families affected by pediatric neuromuscular diseases. We have found that an important piece of support is connecting families,” states the TNSF website.
Patrons can also donate to the TNSF through tax-deductible donations at www.thisbeandnoah.org, as well as to the A Mighty Voice: Fundraiser for Children’s Neuromuscular Diseases.
